Ammonite is a queer trio based near Washington D.C., known for their soulful songwriting, and unapologetically political edge. Lead singer and songwriter Erin (vocals/guitar) is joined by Selena (lead guitar/vocals), weaving together a sound that excites rock fans of Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders as well as country/Americana lovers of Brandi Carlile and k.d. Lang. Ammonite shows are vibrant, often amplifying movements for mutual aid, queer liberation, and gender equality. Their songs carry the grit and urgency of punk while maintaining lush melodies and vocals that stir fans’ hearts. It’s not unusual to see audience members moved to tears. Their upcoming single, “Sidewinder,” is one of Ammonite’s most visceral works yet. Channeling the imagery of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience, “Sidewinder” reimagines the Garden of Eden through a queer lens — where same-sex love is not forbidden but revolutionary — the track captures both defiance and joy. Ammonite has shared the stage with Speedy Ortiz, River Shook, Crys Matthews, Desert Sharks, Flowers for the Dead, Clover Lynn and the Hellfires, and South for the Winter. The band contributed a track to Yesterday and Today: DC Does Dischord alongside Ted Leo, The Dismemberment Plan, and J Robbins and has played the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Takoma Park Folk Festival, Frederick Pride, Rockville Pride, Cumberland Pride, and Reston Pride.
