Garbage BARge Pop-Up Bar
Garbage BARge Pop-Up Bar
Do you love a little guilt with your drinking? Is the plight of ocean wildlife something that keeps you up at night, no matter how much you try to drink the shame away? Then does DC9 have a hell of a pop up bar experience for YOU. From the masterminds that brought you the “Vodka Today Pop-Up Bar’, comes an even more ridiculous concept:

The Garbage BARge

DC9 (and DC in general) is finally saying goodbye to plastic straw use, even though most of y’all keep asking for them anyways.

The first floor bar will be transformed into an underwater nightmare-land inspired by both the Great Pacific Garbage Patch… and the relentless Catholic guilt felt by management in regards to our own plastic use.

We’ll have all the classics: think sea turtles, plastic bags, dolphins and six pack holders. Hell, maybe those La Croix cans from last year will make their own magnificent comeback. It’ll be a beach party in the depths of hell.

I know you might be thinking, “wow, this pop up bar is really jumping the shark”, but the jokes on you! Sharks can’t jump if they’re trapped under an ever growing patch of man-made waste. They can, however, get sucked up into a murderous Sharknado if the climate crisis decides to pull out the big guns, and we have a feeling that it might be mother nature’s end game.

A brand new cocktail menu will be a available, but good luck mixing your Cape Cod with no tiny straw! Any desire for a balanced beverage will surely be quashed when you pause to consider that seemingly discreet piece of plastic could very well kill a large-mouth bass (does that fish even live in the ocean?). No matter, you’re saving him from the cruel fate, and for that, you should reward yourself with an Instagram selfie. Flourish in your #strawfree lifestyle! You are a hero to your friends and oceans.

Although we might be irreverent assholes, your crew at DC9 does care very much about the plight of our local waterways, so we will be donating to a bay foundation. We may not be the outdoorsy types, but we do enjoy the occasional crab. We also pledge to use recyclables in constructing this underwater purgatory and will dispose of them properly. See? We may have terrible taste and a cruel sense of humor, but we are TOTALLY stewards of the water.

The Garbage BARge opens doors on December 17th and will run until December 30th.

As we say around here, “Choke on a straw, Save a sea turtle”. See you in the trash heap!
