Astronomy on Tap

Astronomy on Tap DC is now hosted by DC9 and is organized by Steph LaMassa, an astronomer who works at Space Telescope Science Institute.

Each event features professional astronomers giving short, engaging talks, prize giveaways, and AoTDC merch available for a small donation.

We are excited to ring in 2020 with a special Parker Solar Probe themed Astronomy on Tap at DC9 Club! Our talk line-up for the night, featuring scientists and engineers from the JHU Applied Physics Lab:

Unlocking the Mysteries of the Sun – Nour Raouafi, Parker Solar Probe Project Scientist

Surviving the Sun: Enabling Technologies – Betsy Congdon, Parker Solar Probe Lead Thermal Protection System Engineer

From Blueprints to the Launchpad – J. Felipe Ruiz, Parker Solar Probe Deputy Lead Mechanical Engineer

Throughout the talks, we’ll have Astronomy bingo where you can win a fun prize! During our special solar themed trivia break, you’ll have the opportunity to win an exclusive Astronomy on Tap DC pint glass.

Join us on the rooftop bar following the talks for sky gazing through a telescope, courtesy of Becca Ljungren and her team of astronomy educators from the Phoebe Waterman Haas Public Observatory at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.

Additional AoTDC pint glasses and T-shirts will be available for a small donation.
